Benoît Sordet
" Le domaine cultive la vigne avec passion depuis 1793. "
The word “Arts” is used on the Médailled’or certificate received by one’s ancestors at the time of the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900.
Why can a wine grower not be described as an artist?
The art of the winemaker starts at the tending of the vine and continues throughout the year’s toils, up until the harvest, in order to obtain the healthiest, the most plump and highest quality grapes. It is also the art of the creator who gathers and transforms them, in an excited manner and with an incomparable mystery and emotion. He nurtures his wines with patience and due attention in order to obtain excellence.
Domaine Sordet conceives wines for each important occasion in life. In this way they create wines which are bright and powerful, and even elegant and sensual.
The property has been cultivating wines with passion since 1793. And so as the centuries pass, inspiration is re-kindled without a break across the generations. Wine is truly a product which is comes from an alchemy fashioned by the soil, the blend, climate and the wine grower’s know-how.
Between tradition and modernity, we make wines which certainly need a little time to attain the finesse of the unique Burgundian aromas, but which rapidly develop more approachable tannins, within an envelope of the most pure fruits.
We try to push the boundaries, by studying new approaches, in order to surprise and move you more – whilst the creator is totally respectful of Nature, our sustaining mother. The enterprising approach taken by the Domaine in order to obtain our Qualification in Agriculture Raisonnée corroborates this new approach for the respect of the environment.
THE DOMAIN
Pommard is a small village in the Côte d’Or with just 550 inhabitants and a prestigious appellation covering 337 hectares of vines used exclusively for the production of red wines.
Having taken over from Jérôme Sordet in 2014, Benoît Sordet is now responsible for running what is one of the oldest wine domaines in Pommard. The traditional Burgundy buildings were constructed in the early 17th century and the domaine has been in the family since 1793.
The domaine cultivates just over 12 hectares including 2 monopolies located between Pommard and Saint Romain.
